Although the V8 configuration was not new when the Ford V8 was introduced in 1932, the latter was a market first in the respect that it made an 8-cylinder affordable and a V engine affordable to the emerging mass market consumer for the first time. The Ford flathead V8, often called simply the Ford flathead, flathead Ford, or flatty when the context is implicit in hot-rodding, is one of the best looking V8 engine of all time. This Ford has the engine rebuilt, trans rebuilt, worked brake drums,, shoes, new brake lines, master cylinders, tie rods, wheel bearings, tires, and all new rubber gaskets, new paint and has been converted to 12 volt Cloth Interior

1940 ford deluxe convertible coupe the 1940 fords introduced several new features and one of the most distinctive designs of the prewar era with style and flair that has made the 1940 ford a favorite of collectors, street rodders and customizers for generations. Technically, one of the significant changes was moving the gearshift from the floor to the steering column, a modern feature that was not only more convenient for the driver but also increased front seat legroom for passengers. Ford also introduced sealed beam headlights in 1940, finally eliminating the persistent problem of moisture degrading the reflectivity of headlights, which relied on separate bulbs. The sealed beams sat at the front of the fenders in oval chrome housings that also incorporated the parking lights, merging earlier fords' covered headlight treatment with the improved efficiency and durability of the sealed beam bulbs. The single element vee grille of 1939 was broadened for better cooling with separate grille elements located on each side of the center grille, a sharp and distinctive visual identification feature. Inside the 1940 fords, the wood-grained dashboards that ford had used for years were replaced by a modern dashboard in maroon and beige that employed rectangular forms for the instrument panel and the radio and large speaker, which were now a common feature. Bob gregorie's two-spoke steering wheel, which had earned high praise and acceptance in the 1939 mercury, now found its way into the ford, rendered in maroon and beige plastic to blend with the new dashboard design. Interestingly, it is the 1940 ford that is closely associated with bootleggers in the period. The motors were happy in their day and plenty of speed equipment was available to push them faster. With beefed up rear suspension it was difficult for the law to spot a car loaded down with a fresh batch of white lightning. If the police gave chase, the little flatheads gave the moonshiner a good chance of outrunning his pursuers. This culture of speeding around in hopped up fords gave way to circle track racing in the 1950s and ultimately formed the basis for modern nascar. Finished in stunning garnet maroon with tan leather interior and tan top, this magnificent, documented ca. Total investment exceeds $96,000. Cruise Control

It has been freshened over the years, but retains its old-time charm and intrinsic goodness that's a big part of the flathead experience. There's an old adage that says the bad flatheads are good, and the good ones are great. This one certainly qualifies for greatness. The fat-fendered fords were little updated following the war, but that didn't matter, since ford was selling every single car they could build. With ideal proportions and good looks that have endured the decades, this is an icon in the automotive world and beloved around the globe. The handsome light yellow paint is handsome and period-correct, so it really works on the ford's voluptuous curves, especially when it's accented by that much stainless and chrome trim, although the rear bumper is a little scruffy. Accessories include a driver's side spotlight, bumper guards, and blue-dot taillights, all of which are in outstanding condition. The ford may have been affordable transportation, but it sure didn't look the part. The interior was restored to give the car a period look, and the original front bench seat has been retained. The original gauges were retained (though two of them need replacement faces), augmented by a column-mounted tach and an original steering wheel that has obviously been refinished. The trunk is absolutely massive and has been upholstered to match the interior, so it's much nicer than original and even with a matching full-sized spare, there's plenty of room for a long road trip. The driving experience is what makes ford flatheads so special. With a traditional v8 rumble that takes on a harder edge during acceleration, the over-achieving 239 cubic inch powerplant moves the handsome coupe with effortless ease. Finely tuned and idling smoothly like any good flathead, it shows none of the mythological issues like overheating or vapor lock, and instead just goes about its business without a second thought. It stays nice and cool on the hottest days, pulls hard without running out of breath, and is happy to cruise at 60 mph on the highway. It's also nice to see that it retains its 6-volt electrical system, carburetor, and manifolds, so it runs like the factory intended. Cloth Interior

These fords have a rugged, agile feel on the road, and with a little tlc, this neat '46 coupe could be a big score for someone who loves the '40s.

1940 ford deluxe - lithia springs, gastreetside classicslithia springs, ga 30122ph: 8773671835web: www. That pointed prow on this deluxe tudor sedan is one of the most recognizable beaks ever designed, and the rest of the bright red car ain't half bad, either. Two-tone paint wasn't on the books in 1940, and especially not red paint, partly because red paint back then tended to fade and it was expensive, so henry ford didn't allow it. Nothing on this particular car has been chopped or altered and almost all the trim remains, so it has an honest period look that comes naturally. It's an older build, so it is ready to drive and enjoy without worries, yet it presents well enough to show with pride at the local cruise night. The only real demerit is a hood that doesn't sit quite flush at the cowl, but that's a very common problem with these cars. The paint shines up well and could possibly benefit from a professional cut and buff session to really wake up the shine. The body is all steel and it's nice to see running boards wrapped in rubber that can actually be used. Chrome and stainless trim glitters against the two-tone paint, giving the car a bit of jewelry to go with the high-visibility look. The tan leather interior is quite appealing, using bucket seats with modern patterns to give it an up-to-date look while the color combination remains elegant and appealing. There are speakers built into the doors, but beyond that, it's actually pretty stock, including the door handles, color-matched instrument panel, and garnish moldings. The dash was probably woodgrained originally, but now has a cool red finish that doesn't look too far out of whack with what they might have been doing in 1940 and the dashboard plastics are in remarkably good shape. Modern gauges tuck into a custom panel that looks very much like it could have been born there, and there are auxiliary dials under the dash in the usual location. An am/fm/cd head unit lives up there on top of the dash, right where the original might have been, and for road trips, this tudor sedan includes plenty of back seat space and a massive trunk with a full-sized spare. There's a great-running 350 cubic inch chevy v8 tucked under its pointed hood and it's been fitted with a bunch of upgrades that make it fast yet reliable. An edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, polished intake manifold, and a lot of polished aluminum provide the proper hot rod hardware and it runs great. A th350 3-speed automatic transmission handles power delivery to the 10-bolt rear end, which is full of highway-friendly gears to make this an easy cruiser. It appears that it carries a subframe from a late-mode. Bucket Seats✔ AM/FM✔ CD Player✔ Leather Seats

As a cost-no-object build, it's got a bunch of black leather on a trick bench seat and matching door panels that look period correct. Running boards were archaic but this car uses them to enhance its industrial-strength look and the rare Ford 2-passenger convertible coupe body style looks long and sleek without chopping and sectioning Air Conditioning

Bremen, ga burgundy · 8 cylinder here is a super nice original 1940 ford deluxe 2 door sedan. It's all steel and the body and paint are near perfect. The interior was redone back original and it looks great. It has all the original gauges and they all work except the speedometer. The gas gauge, temp gauge and oil pressure gauge all work. It has the flathead v8 engine that starts and runs great. It purrs like a kitten. The original 3 speed on the column transmission shifts out good. It has the original steering column and steering wheel with the original push button starter. The headlight work as do the tail lights and brake lights. It has no blinkers but it didn't come with any. The emergency brake even works. The car stop good with the original style brakes on it. The bumpers look good with bumper guards and tips. It has matching spare in trunk area. The wide white tires really set it off. This is a great looking car that looks better in person than in pics. Very nice original style 1940 ford deluxe. It's getting harder to find them original anymore.
