1962 ford thunderbird - lithia springs, gastreetside classicslithia springs, ga 30122ph: 8773671835web: www. Cars like this 1962 ford thunderbird were so slick when they were new that adding a few traditional custom touches like the electric green paint and selective trim removal creates a car that looks dramatic without going too far beyond the original design. A lot of that is due to the fact that bullet birds are perhaps the most handsome of the 4-seater thunderbirds and their recently climbing values echo that sentiment. However, this car also looks great because it nails that custom look from the period, a combination of traditional styling cues and that spectacular green metallic paint. It's obvious that a ton of money went into the construction of this car, because the bodywork is fantastic, the gaps are exacting, and the car fits together better than most of its siblings. The rear fender skirts were deleted and it changes the look in a positive way, and a few formerly shiny parts were treated to green paint, just to make it look unique. Most of the chrome and stainless trim is intact, with some being nice original stuff and other pieces being restored during the build. The white interior is pure custom, but again it takes the original design and only tweaks it instead of reinventing the wheel. Those are factory bucket seats wrapped in crisp white vinyl with green piping, as well as thunderbird script embroidered on the seat backs. Dark green carpets anchor the look, and body-colored accents on the steering column, door panels, and center console tie it all together neatly. Things like the swing-away steering wheel, very cool round gauge pods, and three-spoke steering wheel were all retained, although the wheel now has a custom white wrap to match the upholstery. It's all still in quite good condition and we like the look, which will probably never go out of style. All the gauges work and the factory am/fm radio remains in the dash, and it, too, is fully operational. The trunk is conservatively trimmed in dark green carpets, but the workmanship is first rate here, too. The factory 390 cubic inch v8 was retained and remains pretty stock, albeit dressed up with matching electric green valve covers and a chrome air cleaner. Thanks to factory engineering, it starts easily, idles smoothly, and pulls the 'bird around with surprising vigor, as if it were 700 pounds lighter than it is. It's clean and tidy under the hood, but as with all great customs, the engine isn't the point, just a tool. As such, it's a competent servant that works well. The 3-speed automatic transmission shifts well and with power steer. Power Windows✔ Bucket Seats✔ AM/FM

Here we have a true survivor car. A real 1962 ford thunderbird sports roadster with a touch over 52,000 original miles. Rescued from a barn in florida, she has been a florida car her whole life, with documentation proving it. Red exterior with black vinyl interior, tilt away steering wheel, passenger grab bar, manual windows, fully functioning power convertible top that goes up or down in a speedy 1 min, 40 seconds. This car is truly a head turner! All that car powered by a factory 390ci v8. This car has not been restored, but has been stored out of the elements for most of its life. It does have a few minor things that could use some tlc and they are as follows: a/c compressor clutch wire feeding constant 12v (a/c clutch clicks on when plugged in), generator light stays on at low rpm, dents on driver side door, blower motor stays on speed 1 even when in off position, paint is original and has a few minor chips, and minor rust on rear tail light bezels.  she fires up and runs strong and smooth everyday. Would make a great cruiser for someone who wants to get in and drive in style, or for a weekend tinkerer who wants to bring her back to perfection. This car is in original, unrestored condition from 1962, with a few things that are suspected to have been replaced over the years (convertible top, possibly interior, etc). Air Conditioning

Sometime while we weren't looking, 4-seater ford thunderbirds became popular collectors' items. No longer are back seats a liability, and collectors have discovered that fords like this 1962 bullet bird not only look great, but they're downright awesome to drive. The landau was the top-of-the-line thunderbird, reaching across the gap towards the lincoln lineup, bringing luxury and comfort to the thunderbird party. Sure, it was still sporty personal transportation, but with the new look came a newfound focus on luxury. This was also a time when cars were still assembled with care and pride, which shows in the details here, from the ornate front bumper and grille assembly in original condition and needing a little attention, to the stainless trim along the tops of the fenders, to the clearly jet-inspired taillights and rear bumper which looks almost new. It's handsome and stately without being flashy, which was exactly the intention of the original stylists. The bright stainless and chrome details, particularly the wrap-around brightwork that extends into the doors, combine with the carefully textured accents on the center console to give it the look of high-end furniture, not just a transportation appliance. Even the steering wheel is an intricate combination of materials and shapes. Oddly enough, this appears to be a car with radio delete which we've never seen before, but other options include a tilt wheel and power windows, all of which work properly. The spacious trunk is fully lined and carries original mats and a spare tire in its own matching cover. Everyone knows that horsepower sells, and as the thunderbird grew, so did their engines. By 1962, it was a 390 cubic incher making 300 horsepower in z-code trim, as in this landau. Still running in stock spec, it starts easily and runs down the road with a smooth flow of torque and a muscular hum that makes it feel effortless at any speed. It's been dressed up a bit with gold air cleaner and valve covers that contrast with a ford blue block, but other things like the expansion tank for the cooling system are totally correct. A beefy 3-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and channels the power to the 3. 00-geared 9-inch out back, and the highly original chassis is impressively solid and remark. If there's a car that's ripe for a custom makeover, it's the ultra-cool bullet birds of 1960-1963.
