1973 Mercury Montego - Lithia Springs, GAStreetside ClassicsLithia Springs, GA 30122Ph: 8773671835Web: www. It's a mostly original car, and the bright red paint shows a few minor touch-ups here and there, but is otherwise almost entirely 1973 FoMoCo enamel. The black wheels give it a hardcore NASCAR look, but for the most part, it's bright, shiny, and very well maintained. It has lived all its life in warm, dry Georgia, so no worries about those irreplaceable sheetmetal parts rotting from within, and the detailing on this car makes it an awesome blend of Mercury's luxury and performance personalities. A single black pinstripe highlights the rather dramatic shape of the fender line, but otherwise it has no need of stripes or spoilers. The chrome bumpers look great and we particularly like the well-integrated look of the trunk line and rear bumper. The black interior is another awesome indicator of Mercury's mission to deliver performance with some style. Plush black vinyl bucket seats flank a center console, but the seating position is upright with great views. A full array of gauges fills the dashboard, each in its own round pod, and it includes a tachometer, which is probably a rather rare find in a Merc. It also includes a fairly large trunk with what appears to be its original mat and a full-sized spare tire. Sometime in the late 1970s, the original 351 Cleveland engine gave up the ghost, so it was replaced with a more user-friendly 351 Windsor. They were both on the options list and it remains very stock-looking, with a correct air cleaner, valve covers, and a 4-barrel carburetor that makes decent power. Ford blue adds a little contrast to the all-business engine bay and as far as we can tell, there are no significant aftermarket additions, making this a very unusual find. Both the mustang and the cougar grew in 1971, but the cougar seems to wear the extra size better than its cousin. This 1973 mercury cougar xr7 convertible has a sporty look that works with a luxurious interior to create a unique kind of muscle car, and with a rare 351c cobra jet v8, it's more than just pretty. Subtlety was lacking in the early '70s but this relatively muscular cat keeps its performance credentials on the down-low. The chiseled good looks of the cougar reflect both the pony car and lincoln dna in its family, and depending on the angle, it's both sporty and elegant. The narrow front grille with power dome hood are certainly reminiscent of lincolns of the same period, while the kicked-up quarter panels behind the doors are pure mustang, making for a very attractive package. It was repainted not too long ago and has a great shine and good sheetmetal underneath, a perfect sunday afternoon cruiser that doesn't need any special attention. A chrome trunk rack is an unusual accessory but we have to admit that we like how it looks, and a set of magnum 500 wheels keeps it looking aggressive. Nobody will mistake it for anything else from behind, as the downturned taillights and massive chrome bumper are unique to this model, and it still carries factory cougar badging. The bucket seats are a little wider and a little softer, but the array of round gauges are pure pony car. The interior is showing some signs of age, but it's still serviceable and we're undecided on whether we'd preserve or restore the seats. The rest is pretty darned nice, including the carpets and door panels, so leave those alone. The gauges are still bright and crisp and the woodgrained applique still looks bright. For entertainment, it serves up the original am/fm radio and the options list includes power windows, a/c (works, but needs a charge), and a tilt steering column. The top is power-actuated and stows with the touch of a button and is probably only a few years old. Ford's 351 cubic inch cleveland cobra jet v8 was torquey and very user-friendly in the cougar, offering good performance without being fussy. Given the condition of the engine bay, we have every reason to believe this is the car's original powerplant and has probably never been out of the car. Ford blue paint is nicely preserved and like the interior, it would probably be a mistake to start restoring things. Clean it up but don't go too far. Power steering and power front disc brakes were standard equipment on the heavier, more luxury-oriented cougar, and it exhales through a proper dual exhaust system with both mufflers and resonators, so it never sounds too aggressive. An fmx 3-speed automatic transmission is unobtrusive in operation and it carries a heavy-duty 9-inch rear end with towering 2. 75 gears, making this a fantastic highway cruiser. The undercarriage is pretty. Power Windows✔ Bucket Seats✔ AM/FM✔ Air Conditioning

1973 mercury comet - lithia springs, gastreetside classicslithia springs, ga 30122ph: 8773671835web: www. Maybe it's time to have a closer look at the comet. The comet's lines have aged rather well, with the new-fastback profile accentuating the long hood and short deck theme that created the mustang. No, but go find another one that's led an easy life like this one has. It hasn't been modified and it didn't require major surgery to get back into shape, and while there are a few signs of use, the overall look is pretty darned nice. We like the white pinstripe that highlights the gentle curve of the fenders and they didn't shave or delete any of the original trim. There's a very clean, straight grille up front, correct 'comet' script on the sail panels, and blacked-out bumpers for an updated look. Believe us, this car will definitely get its share of second glances. The interior is in excellent condition and if we had to guess, we'd say that the seat covers and carpets are new, but everything else may very well be original. It's basic, yes, but that's part of the appeal with cars like this, and a few minor upgrades make a big difference. There's a fat wood-rimmed steering wheel, for example, which adds a sporty look without changing the overall vibe. Remarkably, the original am radio remains in the dash, and in 1973, that was standard fare in the comet, along with a heater and defroster and little else. The back seat is in excellent condition and is roomy enough for real-sized adults and there's a nice, big trunk that looks to be in excellent order. There are plenty of upgrades from its humble 1973 specifications, including a 4-barrel carburetor, so it's potent without being fussy. It's nicely detailed under the hood, too, including the finned valve covers and matching air cleaner, as well as bright ford blue paint on the block, giving it a very correct look. It's backed by a c4 3-speed automatic transmission and original 8-inch rear end, so the components are rugged enough to put up with some fun, and the cackling flowmaster dual exhaust definitely has that ford 5. 0 performance sound. The floors show off years in a warm climate and the late-mo.

Hi, i'm selling my 1973 cougar xr7 convertibe 4 speed manuel transmission with the cobra jet engine. This is an extremely rare car... I was told only 14 were made in 73 with the cobra jet in a 4 speed. Only 44k actual miles ! A true one owner survivor that is all original. This has been garaged and pampered for 44 years. I have original window sticker and all service records. This belonged to a wealthy collector who passed away. His records and maintenance read like a diary.. The care taken of this car is unbelievable. The paint is in excellent condition and all original, never seen rain. The interior is near perfect. It drives amazing and shifts flawlessly. The engine sounds and performs as it did back in 73. I have all the original floor mats also. I posted pics of the gas tank sticker which is still on from the factory as well as the jack sticker. One gentleman commented that it looks like it came via a time machine from 73. Please feel free to call with any questions. 7708811365.

People who don't know performance may scoff at this 1973 Mercury Comet, but guys in the know understand that this neat coupe has a better power-to-weight ratio than the Mustang and the production figures are a fraction of the more famous pony car. It hasn't been modified and it didn't require major surgery to get back into shape, and while there are a few signs of use, the overall look is pretty darned nice.
